Eliminating the doubt in the current date range of 1940-48, this is the 1948 Open Golf Championship, played between 30th June and 2nd July 1948.
"Lyle" is Walter Lyle.
"Charles Ward" played under the name Charlie Ward.
"Claud Harmon" should read Claude Harmon.
Note that the commentator is impressed that Norman von Nida "has won more than £1000 prize money in the last 12 months"!
"Fred Daley" should read Fred Daly.

Thanks jamied.
We're not sure why there was any doubt about this date in the first place. Our records state that it was released in cinemas on 5th July 1948. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
