Footage of the football cup match between Liverpool and Everton.
Full title reads: "The Match of the Round - Liverpool 'confound the prophets' by beating 'unbeatable Everton by 2 goals to 1 in a great local Cup-Tie 'Derby'".
The two teams run out from the tunnel onto the pitch. Both captains carry footballs as they run out. The grandstand behind them is very crowded.
The two captains meet in the centre circle and shake hands with the referee and each other. The Everton captain (I assume he is the one on the right) tosses the coin.
Play begins. Liverpool defend against an Everton attack. Lots of goal mouth action. (At longer distance the darkness of the film makes it quite difficult to distinguish between the teams). The stands are all very full. More action closer to the camera.
This story was only included in the Liverpool and Manchester editions. Sound track is currently missing.
There appears to have been a longer, silent version of this item in Gazette 1884. This is currently missing.
