A silly cowboy shoot-out takes place on Clapham Common with comedian Stan Stennett.
Clapham Common, London.
On a cold wintery day we see Western style wagons and cowboys on horses arriving at Clapham Common as commentator tells us we are here to witness a Western style gunfight. Waiting on a concrete clearing is comedian Stan Stennett in cowboy costume, looking quite scared.
He greets the other cowboys, all fellow members of the English Westerners Society. They stand in a line and twirl their guns; Stan isn't very good so takes a swipe at one of them with his hat and backs away for a duel. The soundtrack goes silent to whip up the suspense; a man in American Indian costume looks on. The two men draw and shoot past each other; Stan is beaten by the other man. He laughs then looks shocked and puts his hands above his head as he sees two small cowboys pointing Winchester rifles at him. He looks down the barrels and quivers, turning to the camera with a silly expression on his face.
Note: there is correspondence and press releases on file; Stan Stennett was in a BBC TV series at the time. Mute neg is badly cut; print used for telecine transfer.
