1961 grandnational did the russian jockey who fell of his horse whisel it back before he remounted
volodya60 says
Chances are he did. It was common practice to hoist jockeys back on their horses in Russia. Grifel had ran in the Grand Pardubice and won it three times, in 1962 he set the all time record for the race. Watch this race, or any other behind the Iron Curtain at the time and you will find horse and jockey are reunited easily. At risky fences such as Bechers or the Taxis (in the Pardubice) men would be positioned to help grab the horse and jockey. The man who came from the crowd and held Grifel would have been positioned there for this very occasion happening. Relationships between horses and jockeys in Russia were more akin to a day at the gymkhana, more relaxed.
