Double Chance wins the Grand National of 1925, there are several casualties along the way.

Intertitle - 'All eyes on the packed stands were then glued on the start, which was a perfect one, the gate being used for the first time in this race.' L/S of the people in the stands, the camera pans across them. Various shots of the horses at the starting line, a man waves the flag and they set off and race down the course.
Intertitle - '"Alcazar" was the only one of the 33 runners to fall at the first fence.' L/S as the horses approach the fence and jump, we see Alcazar fall. We see it again in slow motion from the side.
Intertitle - 'At the 2nd fence "Taffytus" and "Patsey V" came to grief.' L/S as they approach the second fence and jump, the two horses don't make it over. M/S from the side in slow motion as they jump over the fence. M/S normal speed as they jump over another fence, all make it safely over.
Intertitle - 'Veteran "Sergeant Murphy" fell at the canal turn, also "Ardeen" and several others.' M/S as the horses jump, one gets stuck with its front legs over the fence and struggles, this happens again with another one who struggles violently to get through the bush, men come to help and the horse eventually breaks through.
Intertitle -'At Valentine's Brook, "Ben Cruchan" took the lead.' Various shots as the horses take the jumps, some fall.
Intertitle - '"Gracious Gift" fell heavily at the Water Jump injuring his jockey, W. Parvin.' L/S as they approach the jump, the horse falls and partly crushes the rider who lies motionless.
Intertitle - 'The field was well strung out by this time with "Fly Mask" leading from "Double Chance" & "Drifter". L/S as they jump over the fence, a couple refuse. M/S as they clear another jump. L/S of a third jump, two horses fall, one horse doesn't get up. The other jockey remounts and rides off, another horse falls and does not get up.
Intertitle - 'The finish. Double Chance - 1. Old Tay Bridge - 2. Fly Mask - 3.' L/S as they pass the finish post followed by the others. Double Chance is surrounded by people, M/S as it is ridden to the enclosure. The jockey, Major J.P. Wilson, dismounts. C/U of the horse's head as men pat it. M/S of the horse without its saddle, it steams.
