• Short Summary

Alpha the Robot answers questions from a man and flirts with a girl - dupe of PSP 870.

  • Description

Titles read: 'The face of things - TO COME!'

Location of events unknown - United States of America?

Alpha the Robot answers various questions from a man standing beside him. Voiceover tells us that Alpha is constructed "entirely of metal, but controlled only by the voice". Alpha is instructed to raise his right arm and fire the pistol he is holding. He does so.

He then answers various questions - i.e. he is six foot tall and weighs one ton. He is asked if he likes little boys or girls. He doesn't, but he does like the ladies. A young lady enters and she too asks questions. She discovers Alpha is not married, would like to be, and prefers blondes. She is disappointed as she is dark-haired. On being asked if he would like to marry the lady with him, he replies "She'll do!".

(Intro music is 'Over the Downs' Pub: De Wolfe. Royalty paid for title use '£1'.)

This is duplicate of item in Pathe Sound Pictorial PSP 870 - see separate record for details.

The man with Alpha was Harry May who married my aunt in 1971 and died in 1977. He was English and made the robot in the UK. I found him on the 1939 register living with the woman who became his 1st wife in 1941. She was a widow called Lily Alexander of German Jewish origin. Harry May was described as an ‘Experimental Engineer’ and toured the USA with his robot which he exhibited in New York and San Diego at the Exhibition of 1935.
