  • Short Summary

Early cinematic equipment is demonstrated and early film of performing chimpanzees is shown.

  • Description

    No title.

C/U of an early piece of cinematic equipment. Closer shot as a handle is turned. There is a revolving disc which presumably has pictures on which are then projected onto a screen. C/U of the disc which has horses around the outside. M/S of the disc being attached to the projector. The handle is turned. Footage of soldiers marching past the camera and saluting (Russian perhaps?)

Intertitle reads: "And dealing with animal movement, here is a quaint old film of 1905 which did much to amuse our Parents in those days." Film of a chimpanzee in a dress walking on a "high wire" holding a parasol. The chimp repeats the act without a parasol then walks backwards on the rope. A trainer gives instructions. (Film doesn't look as old as 1905 to me!)

"Twenty-three years ago! And we are still as amused as ever in the queer antics of this so called cousin of man." More film of the chimp walking on the rope then swinging on it and doing somersaults. Chimp holds trainer's hand and then applauds itself.

Was item in Pathe Pictorial issue number 548.
