  • Short Summary

Clarabelle Barratt's second Channel swim attempt fails due to choppy seas.

  • Description

Full title reads: "The Channel wins. Choppy seas force Miss Clarabelle Barratt to give up her second attempt".

    Dover, Kent.

Shaky C/U of Miss B. standing on beach surrounded by crowd. She wears a daring two piece swimsuit, a man is rubbing grease onto her bare flesh. She turns and shakes the man's hand. Pan to follow Miss B. wading into sea, a little girl follows her.

M/S, taken from another boat, of Miss. B swimming next to her support team in a rowing boat. Good view of white cliffs in background. Various shots of Miss B. swimming. L/S of Miss B. and rowing boat, a large ferry passes them, dangerously close! The sea looks quite rough.

Note: old records spell Miss Barratt's first name as "Clarebelle".

Note: see separate record for THE CHANNEL WINS (version 2 of 2). One of these versions is tinted green - as both have been transferred as black & white it is difficult to tell which.
