The footage of this event clearly took a long while to reach Britain, for although the issue date was 2 December 1940, the bridge collapse seen here had taken place on 7 November 1940.
The vibration and swinging of the bridge seen here is called "aeroelastic flutter". The swinging famously earned the bridge the nickname "Galloping Gertie".
