One of the world's great lotteries the Irish Hospitals sweep on the Derby goes ahead despite the destruction of its headquarters by fire.

WS. Dublin street a Pageant with girls in costumes representing spring flowers head a float with the sweep stake drum on it. On top of the drum is a huge model of a Phoenix.

Inside the Mansion House with the counterfoil boxes open. Pan as boxes of counterfoils are carried to the mixing machine. MS. Girl putting counterfoils into a shovel. MS. A mixing machine. WS. the drum tilt down to see the girls seated.
WS. Girls loading counterfoils into machines pan around then tilt to see the drum, tilt down to see the girls in floral costumes carrying counterfoils to be loaded in the mixing machines. WS. Pan along line with girls lined up by the giant drums as the draw nears. WS. Nurses seated in front of the drum as it turns. WS. the drum stops and the nurses reach in and withdraw counterfoils. WS. the girls perform another draw. A man in uniform goes along the line select the chosen counterfoils.
