Slightly reducing the date range of this clip, Suzanne Lenglen died on 4 July 1938.

  2. Sommerville Carr says

This is footage of the famous match between Suzanne Lenglen (France) and Helen Wills (US) at the Carlton Hotel Tennis Club, Cannes, on 16 February 1926. Known as one of the most dramatic encounters ever seen in tennis, Lenglen was declared the winner at 6-3, 7-5 and presented with bouquets of flowers (as seen in the film) but was then ordered to continue the match as one of the linesmen claimed he had called a ball 'in' but had been drowned out by a spectator calling 'out'. Lenglen went on to win the match again at 6-3, 8-6.
