    Intertitle: "Since the war, industrial problems in the U.S.A. and Britain have impeded production vital to world reconstruction."
    Labour conflict in United States of America, a demonstration is shown. Coal miners strike in the United States. John L. Lewis, the miners' leader is featured. Decrees from Washington posted at every pit head reminding miners that they work for the government. Britain: major industries at standstill due to lack of coal. Harold Macmillan makes a speech about fuel shortage. Mr Shinwell - Minister of Fuel and Power - speaks to a congregation of miners. Miners at work.
    Intertitle: "After 17 days of the American coal strike, industrial paralysis was spreading like a plague."
    American mines at a standstill. Trains go out of service. President Truman at his desk. Lewis and the union are charged with contempt of court and fined. Government wins, miners go back to the pits. Production recommences.
    Intertitle: "But, without peace, reconstruction would be wasted effort. World security depended upon the United Nations."
    Ticker-tape parade for Ernest Bevin in New York. Mr Burns, Mr Molotov and Mr Bevin make speeches about co-operation of nations and the prospect of peace. The delegates leave on the Queen Elizabeth liner.
