    Unveiling of unidentified statue at ceremony attended by crowd. Crowd gathered around the monument; with large Union Jack flag covering the statue. Man at the base pulls rope and flag comes off revealing statue of man.

    Shot looking upwards towards statue; with 2 white-helmeted men in foreground (Royal Marines?). A man in suit also passes. Not known if this is in Britain or a colony.

    The occasion is the 1928 unveiling of the statue of Cecil Rhodes on Jameson Avenue, Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Samora Machel Avenue, Harare, Zimbabwe). The statue was sculpted by artist John Tweed and ultimately removed in July 1980. The Rhodesian parliament building can be seen in the background.
