  • Short Summary

Statesmen at 100th anniversary of University of Virginia. Paris, France.

  • Description

    Universite Virginie - Centennial ceremony.

    Paris, France.

Dedication of gift from University of Virginia Alumni who fought in World War One (and who presumably are some of the crowd present) to mark the 100th anniversary of the school.

Looks like a summit meeting; with many French; British; US and other statesmen arriving in cars; some stand outside greeting one another; while others walk past camera; including unidentified Middle-Eastern leaders in Arab head-dresses.

French army leaders also present. Happy soldiers in street; talking laughing; etc.; Arc de Triomphe in background. Outdoor ceremony; with speeches given from platform. Banner in front of podium says Virginia. MS as two military men speak. Pan on crowd; mixed military / civilian officers and statesmen exit building. David Lloyd George stops and looks at camera.

MS old man putting on gloves. CU plaque on building re Thomas Jefferson; Ambassador to France; US President; and founder of the University of Virginia; etc.

Those present include Raymond Poincare; Woodrow Wilson; Georges Clemenceau; David Lloyd George; Arthur J. Balfour; etc.
