• Short Summary

Comedian Stanelli entertains us with few impressions on the violin.

  • Description

Titles read: "Now Pathetone has pleasure in presenting - A Few Impressions by STANELLI of B.B.C. and Variety fame."

    London (probably Pathe studio).

Various shots of violinist / comedian Stanelli as he introduces his first piece as an excerpt from 'Shulbread's Unfurnished Symphony'. Instead of playing his violin he says he has been asked to say "would patrons of this theatre kindly refrain from parking their horses outside as we are expecting the mayor along".

He then plays an impression of a church organ on the violin, by playing the violin between the rod and the strings of his bow. He then plays a noise like a cow on the violin. He then plays a serious tune on the violin, introduced jokily as one of his own compositions, by Beethoven, called 'She Was Only A Musician's Daughter, But She Knew Sir Henry Wood'. It is actually very good - he must be a very accomplished musician!

Note: according to old database record, the music is 'Hejre Kate' by Hubay. J. Heinauer (?), whereas the Denis Gifford book lists it as 'Topsy' (which I am pretty sure it is not) - does anyone know?
