British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden receives Freedom of Perth. Tayside, Scotland.
LS Sir Anthony and Lady Eden, the Lord Provost James Smart and others on platform, the audience applaud. MS as party take their seats. MS and CU as the Town Clerk reads the Burgess Ticket. MS as Lord Provost stands and addresses Sir Anthony, he says that Perth is particularly pleased that it is the first Scottish borough to admit him to the Burgess, he goes on to say he hopes Sir Anthony will remember this day with pleasure, and that the citizens of Perth are proud to call him fellow Burgess. He also comments on his efforts to produce world peace. CU as the Lord Provost hands the silver casket to Sir Anthony who accepts it amidst applause, then shows it to Lady Eden. MS Sir Anthony with his right hand raised, he takes the oath.
There is laughter when Sir Anthony takes out his own fountain pen to sign the scroll, in preference to the large quill pen offered by the Lord Provost. CU as Sir Anthony signs. MS Sir Anthony Eden speaking, he says how happy he and his wife are to be there today, and how deeply touched they are by the silver casket, he says it will always remind them of a day they have enjoyed. He goes on to say what a high honour it is for "one born across the border" to be enrolled as a Burgess in the City of Perth. CU as Sir Anthony recalls the Roll of Burgess which has just been read by the Lord Provost, and says he is proud to be allowed to stand in their company and not least to follow Sir Winston Churchill as their youngest Burgess. He sits down amidst applause. LS the assembly stand and give three cheers for Eden. MS assembly singing "Will Ye No Come Back Again" as Sir Anthony and Lady Eden leave platform.
