    A shipbuilding yard somewhere in Britain.

    C/U of Florence Franklin, a typist in the shipbuilder's office. M/S of dockers crowding around hull of ship on slipway. We see Florence smashing a bottle of champagne against the hull. She won the honour of launching the ship in office ballot. The dockers cheer as the ship slips into sea. The ship is a Merchant Navy tanker, "Empire Correll". As soon as the ship is launched, keel plates are laid for the next ship to be built.

    Various shots of newly built ship "Cape Lookout". M/S of barrels of bananas, dockers are seen peeling (and sometimes eating) the fruit. Because of an shortage of grease / oil, the builders decided to use the bananas to lubricate the slipway. L/S of ship sliding into sea, sideways first. Narrator ends with line "yes, we have no bananas".
