Archbishop Makarios at press conference, surrounded by pressmen and photographers. We then see him sitting at the table for the peace talks in Lancaster House (mute).
More shots of Makarios arriving at London Airport (mute).
Natural sound sequence at the press conference as we hear the entire statement made by Makarios. He says that with an open mind, friendliness and goodwill he is in London after an invitation with the British Government to participate in a conference for the solution of the Cyprus problem.
He talks of the goodwill and understanding that prevailed between Greece and Turkey at Zurich. He has no doubt that Her Majesty's Government desires a settlement which will ensure the freedom and welfare of the people of Cyprus and which will terminate a state of affairs in the island that has been unpleasant to all.
He is asked to comment further but says he doesn't think the British Government should hear his views by television and newspapers. Photographers ask him to raise his hand for a picture; he does so, but says he has done it so many times already (looks good-naturedly annoyed).
He is then asked if he will record a message for the people of Cyprus. People crowd around the Archbishop. We then see several sections of the Archbishop speaking in Greek, presumably recording the message for his people - this sequence is incomplete and contains several cuts.
