    Worcester, Worcestershire.

Winston Churchill's speech: 'Citizens of Worcester - the faithful city - city of long renown, leading us back along the path by which our country, dear, dear England, because we may use the word 'England' some- times, has advanced to greatness and world tradition. I think it's a very great honour you have conferred upon me. I value it very much indeed and I will always be proud to be a freeman of the city of Worcester and I will always treat his Worship the Mayor with that respect and submission, which I have undertaken solemnly to do. I earnestly hope that good fortune may shine upon you in the future but I am sure that whether it be good fortune or will, you will bear yourselves as unconquerable English men and women, spreading our thought and culture by every means over as wide circles as are possible and always ready to give your lives, not only in the moment of death, but to give your lives, devote your lives to the country to which we owe so much and which is for us a religion on earth to preserve and to restore. I thank you very much indeed for the honour you have done me, for the great welcome you have shown to me and to my wife (cheers). We shall both of us treasure the memory of this day." Cheers - the crowd sing 'For He's A Jolly Good Fellow". MS of Clementine Churchill as she and her husband leave the podium. VS of crowd.
