• Short Summary

Toastmaster Ivor Spencer runs a six month course for waitresses and waiters to improve their skills.

  • Description

    South London.

A light-hearted item about toastmaster Ivor Spencer's six months' waitressing course.

M/S of people eating around a table. The diners are attended to by incompetent waiters who pull chairs from under them, knock them in the head with corks and set fire to things. These slapstick moments illustrate why Ivor's course is necessary.

M/S of Ivor teaching a group of waiters and waitresses how to lift a champagne bottle. A student waiter is shown polishing champagne glasses. Ivor tells a waitress her flower arrangement is too high, another waitress enters with a correct sized one. Various shots of a posh table being laid. In the kitchen, Ivor teaches a student waiter how to pick up plates correctly.

C/U of a man combing a waitress' hair. Ivor inspects a row of students. C/U of bottle openers and lighters in the waitresses' hands. Various shots of the waiters and waitresses in action, serving dinner to posh people as Ivor watches.

The man seen at 00:09 is hairdresser Leonard Pountney. I'm assuming he and Ivor Spencer were friends, as I've now seen them appearing together in three clips.
