  • Short Summary

An impressive display of gymnastics at the Royal Tournament at Olympia.

  • Description

    Olympia, London.

Intertitle: " ... Everyone should see this year's wonderful show and thus help the Services Charitable Institutions".

L/S of men in T-shirts with R.M.L.I. (possible R.N.L.I.) doing exercises inside an enormous covered stadium. The men run over to a row of posts in the centre of the stadium, they stand on each others shoulders to fix poles horizontally between the posts. The men on the shoulders jump down, the remainder hang from the poles and do 'chin ups'. The men then use the poles to vault and swing from in an impressive gymnastic display.

The initials RMLI stand for Royal Marine Light Infantry, not as you suggest RNLI Royal National Lifeboat Institute. My Grandfather was in the team from the RMLI Chatham Division and I have a group photograph taken at the time.
