  • Short Summary

Early tests of the German V2 flying bomb.

  • Description

Unused / unissued material - no paperwork - dates unclear or unknown

    Location unknown - presumably Germany.

Various shots of Nazi scientists watching and preparing tests for what looks like the V2 flying bomb. Several of the tests fail and the bombs explode in close proximity to the test sites. One rocket falls off the launch pad and explodes where it stood. Firemen spray the remains of the rocket with hoses and foam. German officers inspect the wreckage.

N.B. This material is scratched and fairly dupey. It may have been used in 46/37 - MD.

This clip currently has no date range.

However, as surmised by the cataloguer, I too think this is the V-2 rocket. That would enable the piece to be safely dated as being from between 1942 and 1945.

The location is highly likely to be Peenemunde, Germany, where the V-2 rockets were all tested.
