    Various scenic shots of countryside and mountains of the American West. We then see a sequence showing the old wild west towns with pioneers arriving in wagon trains, having wild times in the saloon, panning for gold and gold being weighed on scales in a bank.

    Compared with the western towns in present day; ghost towns and old buildings crumbling away; exterior and interior of buildings. Signs reading 'US Mint Building, Not Operating' and 'For Sale' and run down, by-passed towns.

    Sequence showing modern day (1940's) gold mining with mechanical diggers and industrial smelting process. Ends with a sequence showing an old prospector with a mule, discovering gold in the desert.
