  • Short Summary

HMS Repulse rowing team beat rivals and parade their 'cockerel' trophy to shipmates.

  • Description

Titles read: '"Well Done - Repulse!" by beating "Hood" in Annual Regatta, wins coveted title of "Cock" of the Battle Cruiser Squadron.'

    Somewhere at sea.

Bizarre ritual. Shot of boat race in progress; with several teams rowing past w/ the warships in BG. (The boats in the race are lifeboats; or anyway much wider than the usual long & narrow boats used in races.)

Shot aboard ship; looking down from over the ship's guns at crowd of sailors watching & applauding as winning team receives trophy.

Next; the strange procession to bring the trophy back to the HMS Repulse. Led by 2 guys in a horse costume being ridden by a 3rd guy. There follows a man in a sort of cockerel costume - with a shiny silver crest on his head and a sort of corset with feathers on the back; of the same silver material; he walks with his behind stuck out to emphasise the chicken look. (Looks very funny - SL.)

Next comes a sailor carrying small trophy cup and 4 more sailors carrying a board with handles; w/ a shiny gilded or silver cockerel mounted on it. 2 more sailors w/ trophies; then a whole lot of sailors come marching along behind this. Pan on the procession as they go up ramp to ship and along lower outer deck as crew above look down. Shot from the bow looking back at sailors crowded onto every possible space; all cheering; led by officer in FG; with the silver 'Cock' on table in front of him.
