Scenes of in Devon after a summer of severe drought.
Titles read: "RAIN!".
Various locations of events.
Several shots of rain falling - a woman walks along in the pouring rain, holding a newspaper over her head; rain pelts down on pavement; rain runs off a shed roof; a man plods across a field during a cloud burst. Commentator reminds us that this is the stuff we used to have in England a long time ago (drought in 1959!).
In Lynmouth, Devon, we see various shots during the flooding of a few years previously. Water flows right through the centre of the town. A policeman watches it go by. Cut to Lynmouth today; the river walls have been reinforced, but the river is parched and dry after the drought of the summer. General view of coastline near Lynmouth.
Sheep pick their way through dry and stony fields, trying to find food. Farmers feed cattle with some of their winter stock of hay.
General view of the Melbury Reservoir which is almost empty. The ground is hard-baked and cracked.
At Tor Moor we see a drilling device being used to get at an underground supply of water. Workmen look at pumping gauge. 'Emergency Water Supply' notice on pipe line. General view of emergency pipeline stretching across countryside.
Man in a gets water from village pump. People are given water by a farmer going around in his truck with an emergency supply. In a house some men pour buckets of water into their bath for storage. C/Us of pipes dripping.
