• Short Summary

Aero-glider called "Hornet" and a "sea-car" are demonstrated.

  • Description

A French aero-glider is the subject of this film. Shot from behind the aero-glider as it is launched into a lake.

"Capable of 90 miles an hour, they call it "Hornet". Its sting is a depth charge for anti-submarine work." We see the craft bouncing along the water. Another strange vehicle is demonstrated - the "sea-car". M/S of a strange boat on wheels in front of Cleethorpes pier.

C/U of the rear axle of the car - it has a propeller on the back as well as wheels. The car is driven into the sea - lots of people on board - about 20. It travels along the length of the pier. It then returns and drives up the beach.

Was an item in Pathe Pictorial issue number 694.

Safety print only - original decomposed.

The location for the "sea-car" is not Brighton, but Cleethorpes - that's Cleethorpes pier behind it.

Confirming that the pier in question is Cleethorpes pier, compare the film of it at 01:05 with the photo on the attached webpage - you'll see that the shape, design, and indeed the writing along the front of the pier match up....
