    Various shots of new telephone boxes in a yard waiting to be taken to sites in the city; the boxes are equipped with telephones with a direct line to the police. M/S of a sign reading 'South African Police' and the equivalent in Afrikaans.

    A man runs to one of the boxes, picks up the phone and tells the policeman at headquarters in Marshall Square that his house has been robbed. The call automatically makes a light on top of the call box come on. A policeman on the beat suddenly spots the light and goes to investigate.

    He meets the burgled man at the box and they go off together. A police car gets a call from the police headquarters and rushes to the scene. C/U of a notice on the emergency phone box in English and Afrikaans reading 'To Call Police, Ambulance or Fire Brigade'. General view of fire engines rushing out of their station with bells ringing.
