• Short Summary

Ronald Frankau introduces turns compilation - Sandy McPherson, Newman Mond, Beryl Orde.

  • Description

    Pathetone Parade of 1941 - Reel 3.

Compere / comedian Ronald Frankau stands at the bar and introduces Sandy McPherson with a little rhyme. Organist Sandy McPherson is seen playing the famous BBC organ (no longer extant, according to Frankau) in a hall. He introduces different sounds the organ can make. (Duplicate of item in PT 463 and Turns Can 12.)

Frankau stands at the bar and mixes up another cocktail, introducing Newman Mond. We see several shots of Newman demonstrating billiard and snooker tricks. We see one in slow motion. Another trick involves hitting balls around a new laid egg, keeping it intact, of course. Newman breaks the egg into a glass to prove it is real. (This is missing item from PT 482.)

Back to Frankau standing at the bar in shirtsleeves. He says we're going to have an explosive drink now - Beryl Orde. Fade into impressionist Orde standing at a microphone on a set dressed to look like a radio or recording studio. She does impressions of different people reciting the well-known poem 'Excelsior'. First she impersonates Mabel Constanduros and Grandma Buggins, then Kenneth Western of the Western Brothers. Then Beryl introduces her impression "of any of the sweet young actresses on the English screen" and gives us an excellent impersonation of a grimacing, simpering, 'received pronunciation' actress - very funny! (This is missing item PT 478 - what a treasure to have turned up!)

    Continued in Reel 4.
