Out takes (rushes, cuts) for story featured in CP 329.
Cuts (rushed, out takes) for story in Colour Pictorial - CP 329. The original story is also on Pathe Master tape *PM0139*.
01:43:37 to 01:52:58 cuts for story ELECTRONIC RAILWAY in CP 329. Quite a lot of similar footage to that in the cut story; some different footage shows more electric devices and progress of modernisation of the railways: trains being built in a factory, several shots of people working at electronic control desk.
A sequence in the middle of these cuts shows what appears to be a new ferry being launched from a shipyard and, on board, being prepared for travellers: a steward is seen placing wine lists and books of matches on bar tables; very young-looking barmen polish glasses. Presumably, the film was illustrating high speed travel on the Pullman trains and transferring to ferries. A sequence shows the Bristol Pullman train, at Paddington Station (?); people show their tickets at the barrier and board the train. Nice L/S of the train pulling out of the station.
Several shots of trains passing at speed. Some businessmen (probably railway bosses) walk into a kind of tea room at an office and sit and chat. Nice sequence of a train being washed as it passes some huge rotating rollers beside the track. Some great shots show the inside of a train carriage being cleaned; seats are vacuumed, floors are mopped and swept. Nice M/S of railway workers washing their hands at huge circular sinks in a washroom. Unidentified man lights a pipe. Some good footage of the exterior and interior of Manchester's Oxford Road railway station.
Various shots of goods trains including the Lea Valley Enterprise. Good M/S of numerous goods wagons going by with 'Bird's Eye Quick Frozen Foods / British Railways' on the side. Hundreds of cars are transported on a goods train and are driven off the carriers.
