  • Short Summary

Royal family and crowd at Empire Day Programme 1919.

  • Description

Royals and big crowd attend Empire Day programme held in park.

(Rest of this story is on ON 131 D).

Pan over crowd of women of various ages all wearing white seated in park. Royal Family sitting in a front row in the crowd - King George V; Queen Mary; the Prince of Wales (or maybe one of his brothers); Princess Mary; Queen Alexandra (looking absolutely beautiful despite being about 70); the Duke of Connaught; and possibly other minor royalty. They're all looking at prayer books or hymn books.

More of crowd in background, trees etc. Crowd shot without Royals - also LS the women in white - masses and masses of people, really; many 1000s stretching as far as can be seen. Pan left on more and more people. This is about the biggest crowd I have ever seen. Must be half a million people. Trees in background. A balloon dancing above the crowd.
