At a swimming pool near the Great West Road in Chiswick, London, we see several shots of girls parading about in fashionable swimsuits in a beauty contest; other people in swimsuits watch them go by. Commentator talks of old-fashioned swimming costumes when "they really thought that what the eye didn't see the heart didn't grieve for". Comedian John Tilley dives into the water; commentary suggests he is there to open this new swimming pool. Numerous others jump in.
In Margate, Kent, we see various shots of people having fun in an outdoor swimming pool, girls spin round on and fall off a sort of water roundabout; people come down a slide into the pool and stand on a swaying climbing frame.
Section of footage filmed at Brighton in about 1911, according to commentator. Girls in old-fashioned bathing costumes come out of bathing houses and run down the beach to the sea. They have fun in the water (it looks pretty cold and those pebbles are hard on the feet!) while two women in normal clothes bunch their skirts around their legs for a paddle. A man in a bowler hat paddles in the surf with his trousers rolled up to his knees. The bathing belles pose beside a boat before running off.
