    Various shots of men of the Home Defence Organisation (forerunner of the Home Guard as well as regular troops) looking out to sea with binoculars and telescopes from observation posts along the coast. M/S of guards with fixed bayonets stopping and challenging a civilian as he walks along a coastal path. He shows his identity papers to the sergeant and is frisked by the soldiers.

    Various shots of an army camp Fire Brigade Unit practising by putting out a fire beside the parade ground, running out pumps and hoses. The communications network is shown featuring radio and semaphore signallers and despatch riders. Several shots of a coastal defence unit in an alarm exercise; the soldiers run from their barracks and man a heavy coastal gun.
