LS At night, huge flames reaching 300 feet at an oil well fire, started by self ignition. (3 shots). Various shots during day of scorched earth and flames still to be seen in fissures. Good shots, MS and CU of oil bubbling to surface or possibly gas being released from below.
Note: Date on original paperwork: 02/10/1961. Contemporary records say the flames reached heights of 100 metres and raged for 42 hours. The gas pressure loosened the deeper earth layers and the fire put itself out although flames reappeared intermittently. Hungarian commentary.
