Elephants are used to move rocks as a road is built in Ceylon.
Ceylon, Sri Lanka.
Working elephants are featured. Narrator tells us that they "do heavy work with amazing intelligence and ease." They are assisting the locals to build a road.
The elephants are being forced to move large blocks of rock. The rocks have chains wrapped around them and the elephants lift them by mouth. Now seems rather cruel. Trainers sit on their backs holding large sticks - presumably to persuade the elephants to work.
Various shots of the elephants moving the blocks for the road builders.
Note: title suggests that The Empress of Britain was the ship on which this trip was undertaken - we don't see the ship.
