• Short Summary

Footage of the liner Normandie being broken down in New York harbour.

  • Description

Titles read: 'NORMANDIE SALVAGED' ( Dublin issue ).

New York, United States of America.

Aerial view of the SS Normandie liner ship steaming along at sea. Several shots of the ship on her side in dry dock at New York after she caught fire (in suspicious circumstances) in the harbour earlier in the year. Commentator explains that she is being broken down for scrap - probably for war materials, but those things are not mentioned in the Dublin issue!

Several shots of the Normandie on fire in the harbour (see 42/15 for more footage).

Shots of a model of the Normandie as a naval officer points to a section he has removed.

A man in old-fashioned diving suit and helmet hangs onto a ladder in the water - about to rescue "treasures" from the ship. M/S of him posing without his helmet. Shots of men at work, breaking down the ship.
