  • Short Summary

Extracts from a revue show staring Gertrude Lawrence, Herbert Mundin and Alfred Lester.

  • Description

"In rustic love-making, Gertrude Lawrence and Herbert Mundin have a 'stile' all their own." The two are dressed as rustic country types. Gertrude sits on a stile and Herbert gives her a bunch of flowers then climbs up beside her. They flirt, kiss and cuddle. "A sad little story of 1943 when there's only one Railway Co. and no competition (they've all amalgamated) and Alfred Lester has changed his job to Station Master."

M/S of the stage with the cast posing as irate train passengers in 1943 (20 years in the future!). C/U of Alfred Lester looking annoyed, he whistles through his fingers, shakes his fist and beckons on the train. Driver shakes his hand (the train is made of wood). Station Master fetches a coal scuttle and gives it to the driver. The passengers then get on the train. The Station Master waves his flag, the engine driver pulls off, the carriage in which the passengers sit is left behind. When he realises what has happened the driver throws down his hat. Story possibly incomplete.

Issue number unknown - was probably a Pathe Pictorial item.

Note: "Rats" was a hugely successful revue show staged by André Charlot in 1923 at the New Vaudeville Theatre. It ran for 285 nights and featured Norah Blaney and Gwen Farrar amongst the cast - unfortunately they are not seen in this film.
