Title: "The centre of London's newspaper world is Fleet Street". CU Fleet street sign. WS Busy traffic in a London street. "News is pouring into each newspaper office through its telephone exchange". MS Male telephone exchange operator at work. Camera pulls back to reveal row of operators and their supervisor. Title "Inside the cable room a bell rings and a light flashes to show that another foreign cable is coming through". CU lightbulb flashes on. A man enters the cable room and sits at the ticker tape machine as the message comes through. CU as the tape is stuck to a 'Foreign Cable' sheet. MS A row of office boys, waiting. A boy takes the report and leaves the room. WS women at typewriters. The camera follows the boy through the office, he passes the various office workers and a girl in elegant waitress outfit serving tea. The report is passed from desk to desk. Title: "While the news is being 'written-up', this sub-editor is marking on the cable-form what kind of type shall be used for printing the head-lines." CU A man marks instructions on the cable sheet. WS the sheet is is passed around an eventually placed in a conveyor tube. The camera follows the tube as it is mechanically carried into another department. Title: "The cable-form arrives in the type-setting room". The form is given to a typesetter who begins his work. CU the machinery. The typesetter takes the printing blocks which are then placed into a printing layout tray. CU the printing blocks being set. and hammered into place. WS the tray of blocks is carried to another machine. Title: "Inside this machine a sheet of papier-mâché is pressed onto the type and takes off an exact copy." MS A worker operating the machine. CU the papier-mâché sheet comes out. The sheet is dropped down a shoot to a man waiting below. He uses a guillotine to trim it and attaches it to a circular press. Title: "The papier-mâché, bent into a half-circle, is placed in the moulding machine". "Inside this machine, molten metal is poured onto the papier-mâché and makes a metal copy of it." WS Men working at the moulding machines. CU the machinery in operation. The metal sheet is placed on a conveyor belt. Title: "The metal mould fits exactly on to the printing press". MS the printing press as the mould is attached.
