"wreckage of "Sky Chief" - the aircraft was a Douglas DC-2, operated by TWA.
The crash occurred on 6 May 1935. Amongst those who died was American Senator Bronson M Cutting.
The 1935 Kentucky Derby took place on 4 May 1935. "Omaha" mentioned in the text was ridden by Willie Saunders. "Roman Soldier" was ridden by Lester Balaski, "Whiskolo" was ridden by Wayne Wright.
"Crowds surrounding the Lord and Lady Mayoress" - the Lord Mayor is Frederick Richardson.
