  • Description

    Titles read: 'News Briefs'.

    Various locations of events.

In the United States of America we see several shots of young men doing physical training at a high school gym. They do boxing, slide along the ground, swing on and climb up ropes during Commando training.

In a field, we see the bare chested men doing more training - running across the grass, leaping over others who are crouched down, scaling a wall and swinging on ropes to land in hay. Some shots are in slow motion. Reverse shot shows the men leaping backwards over a ditch.

Also in America, M/S of soldiers marching along a country road in tin helmets, gas-masks and protective clothing, carrying rifles. A soldier loads a large shell into a container standing with a line of others in a field. Another soldier pushes down the handle of a detonator. M/S of large explosion coming out of the containers. Commentator talks of chemical warfare being employed against military objectives in Germany if Hitler uses gas against the Russians. Several more shots of explosions. Soldiers in gas masks run out of the explosion dust clouds. Soldiers use powerful flame-throwers on bunkers (?).

At Quebec, Canada, we see several 'sub-chaser' ships leaving a port. Commentator says they are "patrolling Canadian waters and helping in the fight against the U-boat menace". Crowds watch from the quayside. M/S of Captain and signaller (?) on bridge of one of the ships. A sailor stands on a lookout point beside a naval flag and shouts an order. M/S of large explosions on the water behind one of the ships after depth charges have been set off. M/S of a Captain giving hand signals, as if to say, "It went up, now there's nothing left!".
