    Title: "Newcastle Exchange Walk 1926".

    M/S of a group of men in shorts and numbered vests; they appear to be lined up for the start of a race. M/S of the race start; the twenty odd competitors set off, speed walking down a crowd lined street.

    Point of view shot from the back of a vehicle driving slowly along in front of three competitors. The speed walkers are followed by a flock of cyclists, traffic drives down the other side of the road.

    M/S of competitor number 16 walking down a stretch of road. He wears a knotted handkerchief on his head and he is accompanied by a crowd of men, some on bikes. The spectators at the side of the road cheer him on. Similar shot of number 9 . M/S of number 16 mopping his face with a damp sponge as he races along, still followed by the cyclists.

    M/S of number 16 walking towards the camera and the finishing line. Two men with notepads walk alongside him - reporters from newspapers? An Oxo van and two mounted policemen follow him. M/S of the winner - number 16 - standing at the end of the race. He looks exhausted - everyone wants to shake his hand.

    Great to see your footage of the Newcastle Exchange walk 1926
    The winner no 16 is my father Harold Young
    He was captain of South Shields Harriers and went on to win or was placed in many of the north east road races at this time
