    C.U. Sign 'Post Office Southampton Sorting Office'. G.V. Exterior of the new sorting office. V.S. Postmaster General, Mr. Anthony Wedgwood-Benn, MP addressing workers at the opening ceremony. V.S. He presses a button and sacks of mail on a conveyor belt start moving. Mr. Wedgewood-Benn makes his tour of the new office watching the operation right through. MS Tony Benn and Mayor of Southampton, Reg Haskell, watch the new "segregator" machine rotating to separate the heavy and light mail. VS Letter facing machine, other sorting machines, customs examination of parcels, further sorting of parcels. A basket of tomatoes comes apart and stops the conveyor. Men sort parcels and bag up sacks, labelling them for all parts of the world. The sack is automatically lifted off a conveyor and taken to the next department.
