• Short Summary

Large and impressive model village is seen in detail.

  • Description

    Babbacombe, Devon.

Tom Dobbins has built a large model village. Shots of the railway system, various buildings and houses. A young man paints some model huntsmen on horseback, others paint buildings. 2,000 people a day visit the model village - the vast majority of them are adults observes the narrator.

Foreman Johnny Johnson cuts the lawn with a pair of scissors. For every child that watches him do this "there will be regularly 4 gawping adults". A model sports field is seen. High angle shot of the model village giving the impression of the size of the place. Lots of tourists walk around admiring the scenes. Young boy uses a broom to sweep one of the streets.

There is "Merrycombe New Town" and "Merrycombe Village" and I have to say, it is pretty impressive! Over various shots of visitors and scenes including cricket match and water mill.

"Why can't life sized builders give us places like this to live in?" asks the narrator.

Cuts exist - see separate record.
