Officers and soldiers practice manoeuvres on large map with models moved by magnets.
Model battlefield. Part of issue VIEWS OF VARIETY.
Unsure of location of events - could be Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Soldiers and officers of British Army use folding canvas map. The map is stretched out like a table and models of tanks, jeeps and men are moved about it to simulate manoeuvres. Men squatting beneath the map move the models with magnets. The map can be used for artillery practice - another man underneath the map uses device to create tiny columns of smoke to simulate a shell explosions. Looks more fun than of any practical use!
