• Short Summary

Footage of the MCC cricket team preparing to leave for South Africa.

  • Description

    MCC team leaving South Africa.

Several shots of cricket team members on the deck of ship.

    Amendment August 2011:

Tall man with hat could in fact be Sydney Barnes. A legendary crickter who played for Staffordshire cricket club, not Middlesex. It is also possible that this film was acutally taken in 1914.

    Amendment April 2012:

This clip is of the MCC team departing for South Africa on the 1913/14 tour, the final international Test tour prior to WW1. Clearly seen are Frank Woolley, Sydney (S.F.) Barnes, Johnny Douglas, Albert Relf etc.

On still 0.12: SF Barnes in centre with broad brimmed hat, Frank Woolley equally tall. Jack Hobbs on his haunches and Wilfred Rhodes right at the back, left.
