• Short Summary

Preparations for a performance by Paul Brun's Munich Marionettes at the Arts Theatre Club in London.

  • Description

Titles read: "Marionette MAGIC (Filmed at the Arts Theatre Club, London)".

Various shots show preparations for a performance by Paul Brun's Munich Marionettes. The small sets are put in place, the puppets are checked over and the marionette operators get in position. The curtain comes up and three puppets are seen dancing about and singing in an Arabian Nights type scene.

Above the stage we see the operators handling the strings. Off-stage are the musicians and singers. At the end of the number the female puppet leaps onto the shoulder of one of the males.

Amendment November 2014: A visitor to the site has written to say the performer's correct name is Paul Brann.

  1. hufflepuff says

That would be Paul BRANN (1873 - 1955), not "Brun", founder of the "Marionettentheater Münchner Künstler" (Marionette Theatre of Munich Artists), who emigrated from Germany to Oxford in 1934 after the National Socialists came to power.

Well said Hufflepuff! That is my grandfather Paul Brann (you can also glimpse his wife Gabriele, and and son, Florian, my father).
Why haven't Pathe changed the name from Brun to Brann?
    Is there any more footage?
We used to play with those marionettes when we were children. Now the poor creatures are incarcerated in museums.

and the play was called "The Woman with Two Husbands"

  4. ChristianBrann says

Actually the play was called "Wasif und Akiv." "The woman with two husbands" was the sub-title. The woman, seen dancing in the play, was Laila.
Christian Brann, son of Paul Brann
