  • Description

Many costumes and floats in parade. Worthing in West Sussex.

Costumed carnival and parade held in Worthing in West Sussex; England; c. 1920s; occasion unknown; probably part of some festival. Many interesting floats & costumes. CU 3 young teenage girls sitting on a float wearing striped capes over bathing suits; holding parasols; in self-conscious glamor. Man dressed as caveman gnaws on a bone; people pass in BG.

Float with 2 soldiers in trenches with tangled barbed wire as in World War One; sign above reads 'Two Ways of Settling a Dispute: Law or War'. Next; blacksmith actually making horseshoes on float; not only that; there's a real live pony on the float as well. CU Hospital float: 3 young girls dressed as nurses; one of the children bandages a big teddy bear. Shot looking down at parade advancing: more floats; automobiles; Boy Scouts marching. Elderly man reclining on a cot on top of a float. Looking down at parade again; more fabulous floats - people dressed as monkeys in a cage. Spectators on pavement; with long streamers blowing over their heads from balcony.
