Derek hops up and down, limbering up for the maiden flight of the first successful manpowered plane,' Sumpac', designed by students at Southampton University. If Derek flies the plane a distance of one mile, the students stand to win the £5000 Henry Kremer prize. M/S of two of the students assembling the tail fin. C/U of a man watching. L/S of the plane as it takes off bumpily. Although the plane is made from nylon and spruce it still weighs 100 lbs, it requires two-horse power to get off the ground.
