British Infantry and stretcher crews in training.
Manchester Regiment Training.
Soldiers carry stretchers across field. CU Soldiers finding a wounded man; starting to lift him. (If the quality weren't so bad this would be a good shot.) Troops advancing across field; a spread out line leads. They walk toward camera; then drop on the ground. (A short cut here.) Behind them the rest of the men advance in 2 long lines; bare trees and fog in BG; dreamlike. Pan right; the lines extend farther across the flat ground; and up a hill; the men are moving diagonally across the hill. Pan left as the long lines of men drop to the ground and the few in front start out again.
Jumps around a bit here. CU soldier lying on the ground - funny shot; because then a stretcher crew come running and go right past him! Lots of soldiers standing about; in vague versions of the lines. Then a shot of the landscape; hills; trees; with soldier sitting down; they jump up and run to the right. Troops and stretcher bearers run across field. L/S of soldiers with bayonets (?) and some with bicycles walk along.
Soldiers in lines on the grassy hill, as if awaiting orders. Officers on horses in front. Long lines of soldiers marching along pathway with bayonets over shoulders.
Frightening example of how troops would have gone 'over the top' en masse, to be picked off by the enemy in their trenches - SL.
