Funeral, or lying-in-state, of personality in France.
People arriving at funeral - or lying-in-state - of unknown personality. France; c. 1920s?
MS cars pulling up outside building; mourners entering. Others enter from cars parked behind. Women in all black mourning and long veils. (all this telephoto lens part very shaky) MS people entering gates of building.
Various shots mourners coming out. Kisses & handshakes are exchanged. Shows more of building - huge arch doorway. Mourners in front. Outside another building; covered with ivy. People stand talking. Some men carry out floral displays - cross shaped thing made of flowers; other big bunches of flowers.
Pallbearers; all wearing uniform long jackets & berets; carry coffin out of doorway & towards camera. Military men salute as it passes. They seem to be putting it in hearse; off-camera on right. Large funeral wreath carried by. Procession coming out of gates; towards camera. Dark horses with black plumes pull a beautiful carved hearse - open so coffin is visible on all sides.
Other carriages with flowers follow; then cars. Pallbearers removing coffin from hearse - French flags on top; floral cross on top of that. They carry it into another building. Shot of carved hearse parked outside; odd horse-drawn A-frames with wreaths drive down street. Wish we knew what VIP's death all this fuss is about.
