A hairdressing salon provides luxuries such as drinks and cigarettes for its customers.

  • Description

    Hounslow, Middlesex.

A story about a hair salon where the customers are pampered with various luxuries. It starts off with shots of people sat around drinking in a bar, this is at the Leonard Pountney hairdressing salon. Various shots of women sat around having their hair styled in glamorous surroundings, shot of a tape player piping music to them. Various shots of girls having combs and accessories put in their hair or trying on wigs. Several women eating lunch as they are sat under hairdryers.

Various shots of men having manicures and hair cuts, women bring them cigarettes and drinks, and telephones are provided for businessmen. Various shots of a style created in wood shavings to show how the woman will eventually look. There are some shots of women modelling swimsuits and dresses for the customers. Two girls in swimsuits are seen under a heat lamp against backdrop of a sea scene.

Cuts exist - see separate record.

Same Leonard Pountney is filmed in a few other fantastic Colour Pictorial films. Bizarre as much as entertaining they are all highly recommended - CP 89, CP 405, CP 279 & CP 728. He also briefly appears in CP 250.

At 01:41, the man in the red jacket, (hosting the modelling show), is renowned toastmaster Ivor Spencer. I'm assuming he was a friend of Leonard Pountney, as he appears with him in another Pathe clip, number 467.09.
